Working with Or Diamond
How long has your family been in business?
Our grandfather Eang Or opened his first jewelry shop in 1970 in the capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. After he passed away during the 1975 war, our father Sovann Or continued to study as an apprenticeship from a master jeweler and debuted his own shop in 1981. Sovann is a certified Master Bench Jeweler from Jewelers of America (JA), and with his family, has more than six decades of jewelry making experience. We use our years of education and lifelong experiences to provide you with educated and direct services for jewelry making. No middle people. Just generations of jewelry makers.
Do I need to make an appointment to stop by one of the stores?
An appointment is not necessary as you can do walk-in. However, if you make an appointment, we can prepare to better assist you with all your visit. If you cannot make it to any of our Tuesday to Saturday hours, please feel free to contact us.

About Our Products and Services
Why do Or Diamond center prong and setting look different from most others I have seem?
The prongs and proportion of our settings hold their center gem seamlessly because our settings are individually designed and handcrafted specifically for a center gem to ensure the quality of the finished piece and to fit the gem's unique dimensions and characteristics. Our settings are custom crafted after their gem, not before.
If I do not see the gemstone or diamond I'm looking for on your website, do you have more that are not listed?
Yes! While we strive to list more pieces as fast as we can, we carry a broad selection of gemstones and diamonds in a variety of beautiful colors, shapes, and sizes that we have not gotten to adding them all. Yes! We offer mainly GIA graded diamond. We also carry diamonds with a few other independent lab certificates to bring our customers more choices to choose from.
What if I want a center stone shape that is not offered for that setting?
Many of our settings can easily be modified to accommodate a different center stone shape than what is offered online. Please contact us or submit our quick modification form here to discuss your modification options.
How do we verify that a loose diamond belongs to the original laboratory report?
New technologies have allowed most laboratory to micro-laser inscribe lab report number onto the girdle of professionally graded diamonds. Under a microscope, we can help our customer to verify that the diamond belongs to its certificate.
On some rare occasions where there is no laser inscription on the diamond, we can show our customers the actual weight of the stone, the reported characteristics, and the location of inclusions of the stone compare to the location of the report's inclusion diagram. Because no two diamonds are born the same, no two diamond will have the exact fingerprint or inclusions as well as the same exact stone shapes and weight.
What's the difference between diamond and a moissanite?
The main difference that most jewelers do not tell you is that moissanite is doubly refractive while diamond is singly refractive. The doubly refractive moissanite, at certain angle, will refract a blurred image. While at some angle, it will produce clear one refracted image. Due to the doubly refractive nature of moissanite, some moissanite shapes will appear slightly more cloudy/hazy such as the tips of pear shapes and marquise shapes. Singly refractive diamond produces clear refraction when you look inside the stones at all angle, thus diamonds do not look hazy/cloudy unless there is a clarity characteristic that makes the diamonds look cloudy or hazy.
Another main difference is that moissanite displays more sparkles than diamonds because it has more fire or rainbow flashes of color. Most moissanite girdles are smoothly polished while diamonds can have a faceted girdle or bruted girdle. Read our comprehensive article about moissanite here.
Do you offer engraving?
Yes, we offer free engraving on all of our engrave-able engagement ring and wedding band. Read about our free engraving here.

3D Custom Design
How long does custom design take?
Depending on the style and the season, it can take anywhere between 2-6 weeks. We also offer express service to accommodate rush order as well. Please contact us for the current time frame.
I have jewelry that I no longer wear, can I use those gold to re-make a new jewelry?
We have two options: 1. you can resell your jewelry to us for a credit that will amount towards your new custom design piece, or 2. if you would like to use a heirloom jewelry from a family member, we can see if the stones and/or the metal from the old jewelry can be mixed in with our gold to make the new piece for better durability and cast-ability. We recommend using just new gold because it will provide the most durability. But we will try our best and work with you to custom make a new jewelry that still has the same meanings and value from your loved one.
How do we custom design jewelry?
We love to spend some time getting to know you and your love one, if you are designing for her or him, to gather an understanding of what you're looking for in your special design. We understand that being able to communicate directly to the person who will personally design your jewelry is extremely important, so we do not do middle salesman or consultant.
From the start, you will be partnered with one of our jewelers who will help you refine the details of your design, explain all the possible options, and design your piece from start to finish. If you can't quite visualize your design, don't worry, we will help guide you through the decision making process as this is what we do best.
Once you are happy with your design direction, your jeweler will translate your design into 3D computer renderings based on the information you’ve given us. If there is any part you wish to change, we’ll keep designing until you love it. We go above and beyond, so you’ll also have a chance to review your design in real life by physically trying on your custom jewelry in a 3D wax model and offering feedback. Even at this stage, we can adjust the design until you're happy. Read more about our custom design process here.
Between white gold and platinum, which is the better option?
It depends on what you prefer. People usually choose between the two metals depending on their budget, long-term preference, and if they have any allergic reaction. In terms of color, platinum has an unchanging white color with a really slight grey tone. Without rhodium-plating, white gold's natural color is a soft, warm tone of yellow, because white gold is a mixture of yellow gold and white metal alloy to make it whiter and stronger. All white gold pieces are rhodium-plated to give them a brilliant, white shine. Over a long period of wear, depending on how you wear your jewelry and your lifestyle, the rhodium plate can wear off (usually at the bottom of a ring or any place that come into contact with your skin such as earring post will wear off first). However, white gold can be re-polished and re-rhodium plate to look white and brilliant again. Or Diamond also use a special white gold alloy that produces whiter karat white gold. thus will look whiter than the traditional white gold's true yellow tint color.
Platinum is more malleable compared to white gold because of its high purity of 95% pure platinum. As a result, they tend to get dent or scratch easily. Over long period of wear, platinum jewelry, especially rings, tend to look duller over time. What's good about platinum prongs is that they will not "scrape off" small microscopic pieces like white gold prongs that does and can become thinner over a long period of time (20 years or so depending on your lifestyle). However, these white gold prongs can be retipped or "grown back" by a jeweler. Worn out platinum prongs just tend to flatten out or reshape itself. On the other hand, white gold with rhodium plate appears bright and scratch less than platinum. You can also re-polish platinum ring as well to remove the scratches. And platinum is hypoallergenic while some white gold can cause allergic reaction with people who are allergic to nickel, but platinum is almost double the price of white gold.
What metal do you work with?
We generally work with all types of precious metal.
What side-diamond quality do you use?
On average we use GH SI1 that has a bright eye-clean quality for our side-diamonds. If needed or upon request, we can upgrade to higher quality F+ VS quality or to match the center stone's quality. Our customer can request any quality to fit their budget. Each side-diamonds is inspected and hand selected in our work studio to meet our exceptionally high standard.
What is the thinnest band we recommend without compromising on durability?
The thickness depends on the ring/band design and metal choice. We generally recommend not to go any thinner than 1.5mm for durability purposes.
