Jewelry Redesign
What is it?
Many people ask us about what they can do for outdated or broken jewelry. What's beautiful about fine jewelry is that it can be renewed and transformed to tell a new story. But what most people do not realize is that remaking a jewelry, especially by using gems or diamonds from an old piece to make a new one, requires both an immense amount of skill and hours of meticulous precision and patience compared to crafting with new materials. Therefore, if you wish to renew your jewelry, we highly advise trusting your jewelry with a jeweler who has decades of experience in working with old jewelry.
At Or Diamond, we have specialized in personal custom design for nearly four decades, and we have renewed numerous sentimental pieces by marrying advanced 3D design technology and traditional jewelry artistry. We pride ourselves on our care and attention to detail in every step of the process of crafting your jewelry. Please feel free to reach out to us for any question.

Moving your old gems into a new design
To use the gems from your jewelry to make a new one requires careful evaluation of the stones. Most gems, through many years of wear, can suffer chips and cracks. So we high advise bringing in your jewelry for us to examine its condition before we can start designing your new jewelry.
Reusing old gold or platinum to make a new jewelry
We often get asked about making engagement rings, wedding rings and other jewelry using old gold and platinum. While it's technically possible to melt down your old jewelry and use it in a new piece, it's strong not advisable for durability reasons. We often can mix your metal with new metal but the most durable option for long time is to use completely new metal. This is because melting down old jewelry to make a new piece makes the metal weaker, and quality is always poorer than when you use new metal. Another option is to use the gems from your jewelry and trade in the metal parts for credit towards your new jewelry. No matter what you wish to do, we will work with you and always strive to make the most meaningful pieces possible for you.

How does it work?
If you decide to do a custom made piece rather than getting a jewelry setting we have in stock, our jewelry re-design process is similar to our 3D custom design process. The only difference is that we will start the design based on the shape, size, and number of gemstones that your old jewelry has. You might end up using all of the material from your old jewelry or you might end up with some extra that you can use to do something else such as an earrings or a necklace. Below outlines the custom re-design process:
Step 1:
If you do not see an in stock setting that you like, we offer the option to do a custom make for your re-design. After you approve the design and price quote, we will start to design your new jewelry and then send you realistic render pictures for approval. If you don't like anything, we will keep revising it until you like it.
Step 2:
After you approve the render picture, we will proceed to 3D print out the jewelry model out for you to see in person. (For non-local customers, please email us if you would like to see the model.) At this stage, if you don't like anything about the model, we will keep changing it until you like it.
Step 3:
Only after you approve the model do we go ahead and proceed to cast the jewelry in the metal of your choice and set the gemstones if applicable.

What to do with extra material that is not used in the new design
Many times, our customer only use the center stone of a ring or jewelry and left with a jewelry setting that does not have a center stone. In this case, our customer can choose to sell the unwanted parts and be credited toward the new item purchase or they can keep it for later use. They can also use some part of the item for other jewelry pieces such as earring, necklace, or a matching wedding band if the item allowed.
How long does the process takes?
The whole process takes anywhere between 1 to 7 weeks depending on the design and the season. Some season we are busier than others so it is based on first come first serve. On average, it takes around 2-4 weeks.
